HILLSIDE'S FIRST-EVER NIGHT OF THE ARTS SHOWCASES A RANGE OF STUDENT CREATIONS
On Tuesday evening, June 6, ahead of the Spring Concert, families and their children were invited to Hillside Elementary School for its first-ever Night of the Arts.
The gallery walk, coordinated by Hillside Art Teacher and members of the Art Department, consisted of two artworks from each young artist, 1,140 in total, from grades K-4.
Children led their parents through the vibrant hallways, pointing and taking pride in their creations.
"Many of the artworks in the show were inspired by nature," said Z.P.
From the school-wide collaboration of trees that greeted families at the entrance, to fourth grade’s John Nieto-inspired indigenous animals of Westchester paintings, there was an abundance of art to admire.
Ceramics were featured widely, with fish in a Hudson River display made by the school's third graders, owls made by the second grade, rainbows in first grade, and finally, turtles for fourth graders.
Other artworks were inspired by well-known artists like Wayne Thiebaud, Faith Ringgold, Dale Chihuly and Andy Warhol.
"It was wonderful to have the community come together to celebrate the arts and watch our young artists take pride in their work," Ms. Panush added.
